Important Board of Education Meeting – November 10th

This is a message from the Chevy Chase Elementary PTA concerning possible consolidation of the 6th grade program:

The Board of Education is seeking community feedback to its amendments and
Dr. Weast’s recommendation on Wednesday, November 10 and 11 at its public
The CCES and NCCES PTA Leadership is in the midst of crafting a survey for
release by Monday, November 8, if not sooner, to gauge community input.
In the interim, please WATCH the BOE work session. Mark your calendars for
November 10, the designated B-CC Cluster testimony evening! Sign up for
public testimony to voice your opinions. And plan to attend the public
hearings – your attendance is important even if you are not personally
providing testimony. More information on how to sign up to testify follows

This is a crucial juncture. The BOE will make a decision on Dr. Weast’s
recommendation to relieve over crowding in the B-CC cluster, and its
amendments, on November 18.

Please mark your calendars for November 10! Parental presence at the Board
of Education’s Facilities public hearing will be important!

The designated evening for the B-CC Cluster is Wednesday, November 10, 2010.
Our MCCPTA B-CC Cluster Coordinators will provide testimony to the BOE for
our entire cluster.

*** YOU *** can also provide individual testimony to express your opinion to
the Board of Education. And we encourage you to do so!

Ideally, we want the bulk of our community’s testimony to take place on this
date. But you are welcome to testify on either Nov. 10th or Nov. 11th.

The window to sign-up for public testimony is NOW, up until 12 noon on the
date of the hearing. There are only 25 slots available each evening, unless
the BOE President chooses to extend the number of available slots. So if you
want to provide your individual public testimony at the hearing, please call
the BOE as soon as possible to reserve a slot.

The allotted time for your testimony is 3 minutes. And you will need to
provide your written testimony to the BOE at least 24 hours in advance of
the hearing date, preferably by email:

the Board of Education, and MCPS Leadership, during this time. A full list
