THINK SPRINGTIME IN FEBRUARY WITH CC@H
What could be better in the dead of winter than thinking about an early spring hike along the canal towpath, that glorious National Historical Park that runs all the way from Georgetown to Cumberland, MD? On February 5th that’s just what CC@ H has in store when Jim Heins takes us on “A Virtual Tour of the C & O Canal”. Hines, a retired administrator from Montgomery County Public Schools, has long been active in the C & O Canal Association, where he currently coordinates volunteer maintenance involving the Park Service and the Association. He has hiked the entire length of the towpath and has great photos and stories to share. Come to our M&M at the Chevy Chase Village Hall from 2 to 4 pm on Feb. 5th and take the tour, refreshments in hand!
The February 19th M&M will offer a fascinating discussion about “Family History and Genealogy” by Barbara Walsh, who was a reference librarian at the Library of Congress for over 40 years. From 1989 to 2007 she was a reference specialist in the Library’s Local History and Genealogy Reading Room. In retirement, Barbara avidly researches her own and her husband’s family history and occasionally takes on some freelance research projects. She lives in the Rollingwood neighborhood of Chevy Chase with her husband Harry. This event is also from 2 to 4 pm at the Village Hall.
And save the afternoon of March 5th for more local lore with William Offutt, author of “Bethesdsa: A Social History”.
