MCPS superintendent Joshua Starr included $1.55 million in hisproposed FY 2015-2020 capital improvements budget for additions to Bethesda-Chevy-Chase High School and North Bethesda Middle School.
B-CC enrollment is now nearly 200 over capacity and is projected to grow to 2,400 by 2023. The addition project would be ready by 2017 and increase the school’s capacity to 2,399.
North Bethesda Middle School’s planned capacity is 864 students. Current enrollment is 901, is expected to surpass 1,000 in 2015 and hit 1,300 in 2023. This addition, which also would open in 2017, would have a capacity of 1,208 students.
Once approved by the county board of education, Starr’s budget proposal will be submitted to County Executive Leggett, who will include it in his six-year capital budget to be released in January. The county council will hold follow-up hearings and vote on a final capital budget in May 2014.
