Later Public School Start Times, Longer Day Proposed

The Montgomery County Public Schools system is soliciting feedback on superintendent Joshua Starr’s recommendations on “bell times.” He has proposed pushing back school starting times 10 minutes for middle school students and 50 minutes for high school students. He also proposed leaving elementary school starting times as they are but extending the school day by 30 minutes, to bring it more in line with most other Maryland public elementary schools.  More detailed information is available on the MCPS website.

Members of the community can comment on the recommendations by sending an email to, participating in any of the following scheduled community meetings, or both:

The meetings are from 7 to 8:30 pm.
