On Thursday, 10/01/15 at 10:30 AM STEM Open Play: Come to the Chevy Chase Library on Thursday mornings from 10:30 -11:30 am to have fun with Duplos, blocks, matching and sorting games and other STEM/STEAM activities. Preschool age. No registration required.

On Friday, 10/02/15 at 3:30 PM Lego Play: Drop in for an open session of Lego play on Fridays between 3:30 and 5:00 pm. Elementary age with an adult. We will provide the Legos and space, you provide the imagination. No registration needed

On Saturday, 10/03/15 at 10:30 AM CC Library 50th Anniversary – Children’s Program: Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Chevy Chase Library with Tracy Eldridge and this musical program. Tracy Eldridge is a musician, songwriter and children’s performer.

On Saturday, 10/10/15 at 10:30 AM Captain All-Star Show: Captain All-Star is D.C.’s funniest and clumsiest magician. His interactive program is filled with fun magic and comedy gags sure to delight all kids ages 2-7.

On Saturday, 10/10/15 at 2:00 PM Foreign Film Series: Join us for screenings of a variety of films from around the world. Please note that while typically shown on the first Saturday of each month, this will be shown one week later. All movies have English subtitles. Screenings will begin at 2:00 p.m. Wild Strawberries (Swedish; made in Sweden).

On Wednesday, 10/14/15 at 7:30 PM Great Books Group: This month’s selection is Cyrano de Bergerac, by Edmond Rostand (Brian Hiller translation). Join us for an intellectually stimulating exploration of some of the greatest fiction and non-fiction works published through the ages. Registration is not required. Attendees are responsible for obtaining the material to read in advance of the discussion.

On Friday, 10/16/15 at 10:30 AM Jefferson Café: This month’s articles are “We Can’t All be Math Nerds and Science Geeks” by Fareed Zakaria, Washington Post, March 29, 2015, AND “The Future of College,” by Graeme Wood, The Atlantic, September 2014, p. 50+ AND “Virtual University Minerva Project” by Patrick Hoge, Bay Area Biz Talk, October 2014. We hope everyone will feel comfortable participating. The group is fairly small so that everyone can see and hear everyone else while seated around a table. Copies of the articles to be discussed will be available without charge on the holds shelf at the library.

On Saturday, 10/17/15 at 2:00 PM Tai Chi Demonstration and Workshop: Presented by Tai Chi Master Chung-jen Chang. Master Chang has taught Tai Chi for more than 30 years. He has consulted on the highly acclaimed movie “Pushing Hands,” by Oscar winning director Ang Lee. For ages 14 and up.

On Monday, 10/18/15 at 7:00 PM From Truman to Obama: Faiths and Practices of Postwar Presidents: David L. Holmes, church historian, will draw from research and interviews to look at details such as Eisenhower’s background in the Jehovah’s Witnesses, Nixon’s secret Unitarianism, Clinton’s conflicting Saturday night/Sunday morning personae, and the sincere religiosity of Truman, Ford, Carter, George H. W., and George W. Bush.
