Rock Creek Extreme Cleanup
This year, in honor of Earth Day, RCA partnered with the Rock Creek Conservancy for their Annual Extreme Cleanup. Rollingwood RCA adopted the Meadowbrook Cleanup site. Many thanks to our awesome volunteers who braved the rain to cheerfully collect trash and recyclables. Thanks to your efforts we collected: 22 large bags of trash; 21 bags of recycling; 12 pounds of bulk trash; 29 plastic grocery and ziplock bags; and 141 cigarette butts!
Best find of the day goes to Paul Dowling, who plucked a maraca from a pile of flotsam at the base of a fallen tree in the creek. Paul has decided to keep the maraca and use it to lead our merry band of cleanup volunteers in future efforts to clean and preserve our precious Rock Creek Park. Special thanks to David London, Rock Creek Conservancy Board Member, who greeted our group to talk about the important work RCC does to preserve and protect Rock Creek Park and then rolled up his sleeves and cleaned alongside us!
We look forward to future opportunities to partner with the Rock Creek Conservancy and will keep you all informed of events as they arise. For more pictures of the event, check out the photo gallery.
