The Purple Line is a proposed 16-mile light rail line extending from Bethesda in Montgomery County to New Carrollton in Prince George’s County. In the Chevy Chase area, the project would be built along the right-of-way that is currently the Capital Crescent Trail (CCT). The plan includes maintaining the CCT as a paved trail parallel to the rail line. The CCT is an important recreational asset for the Rollingwood community. Should the Purple Line be constructed, RCA believes the trail should be as wide and natural as possible.
The Purple Line also contemplates a station at Chevy Chase Lake. Planners are currently considering significant redevelopment proposals for Chevy Chase Lake which would likely result in greater densities. RCA is actively involved in this planning process, and more information about RCA’s efforts is found here.
